Breast cancer screening rates from January 2021 to October 2021 did not return to pre-pandemic levels, resulting in 68,000 missed breast cancer screenings, according to a new study.
In addition to the human toll of not detecting cancer early, when cancers are found at an advanced stage they are more extensive, more likely to spread to other parts of the body, and more difficult to treat, which leads to higher expense in treatment, the researchers pointed out.
