Black and Hispanic women diagnosed with breast cancer less likely to receive fertility-sparing treatment

Black and Hispanic women diagnosed with breast cancer were only one-third as likely as White women to receive treatment that helped preserve their fertility in a study of women in California. Researchers analyzed medical records of more than 44,000 women diagnosed with stage I to stage III breast cancer between 2004 and 2015 to see which women received treatments or procedures to preserve eggs and sperm.

The results of the study were presented at a 2022 scientific conference.
